Upon arrival in Vientiane, you will be greeted by our guide and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, begin your half-day city tour with a visit to Wat Sisaket, the city’s oldest surviving temple, known for its thousands of tiny Buddha images. Continue to Wat Prakeo, once home to the Emerald Buddha.
On the way to Laos’ most sacred monument, the That Luang Stupa, stop to photograph Patuxay Monument, Vientiane’s own Arc de Triomphe.
If time permits, you may also visit the COPE Center, an excellent exhibition space that highlights the challenges of UXO (unexploded ordnance) across Laos and the organization’s work providing prosthetics and rehabilitation for survivors.
This morning, transfer to the airport for your short flight to Oudomxay in northern Laos. On arrival, drive around 45 minutes to the peaceful village of Muang La.
Visit the revered Pra Xack Kham Temple, home to a sacred 400-year-old Buddha statue believed to possess spiritual powers.
Spend the rest of the day relaxing at your resort. You may stroll around the village, soak in natural hot springs, or enjoy a massage at the riverside retreat.
Dinner is included at the resort.
Today’s the adventure takes you deep into the hills to visit two ethnic minority villages: the Ikhor and the Hmong. These groups originally migrated from southern China and are renowned for their traditional weaving and textiles.
Travel along a scenic mountain road reaching elevations of 1,000m with panoramic views. The remote Ikhor village maintains strong traditional customs thanks to its isolation.
Continue on foot for about an hour to a nearby Hmong village, where you’ll have the chance to visit homes, chat with locals, and learn about their way of life. End the experience at a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the region before returning to the resort for dinner.
Begin the day with a drive to Muang Khua, where you’ll board a private long-tail boat for a scenic cruise down the Nam Ou River.
This part of the river offers stunning limestone cliffs and riverside villages accessible only by boat. Stop at one or two of these peaceful communities to explore local life before arriving at Nong Khiaw by mid-afternoon.
Upon check-in, you may take an optional bicycle ride through the charming town to explore a nearby limestone cave.
Continue your journey downstream on the Nam Ou River, passing lush green hills and quiet rural life.
En route, stop at the mystical Pak Ou Caves, set in a cliff where the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers meet. These sacred caves contain thousands of Buddha images in various styles and sizes, left by pilgrims over centuries.
Cruise onward to the UNESCO-listed city of Luang Prabang, the former royal capital nestled among forested mountains. Arrive at your hotel in the early evening.
Start the day with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, showcasing artifacts from the former monarchy that help paint a picture of Lao history.
Continue to Wat Xiengthong, famed for its elegant low-sweeping roof, and Wat Visoun, known for its watermelon-shaped stupa.
In the afternoon, visit Ban Xanghai, a village famous for distilling traditional Lao rice wine. A home visit offers insight into local life and a chance to sample some homemade brew.
Later, tour the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre, which provides an excellent overview of Laos’ diverse ethnic cultures.
Finish the day by climbing the steps up Mount Phousi for panoramic views over Luang Prabang and the Mekong River at sunset.
Rise early to witness the spiritual alms-giving ceremony, where monks collect morning offerings from local residents — a deeply revered tradition still preserved in Laos.
Then visit the lively morning market, filled with local produce, meats, fish, flowers, and cooked specialties.
After breakfast, drive out to the countryside, stopping at a silk weaving village to see the traditional process. Continue to Ban Thinkeo, a Hmong community where you’ll learn about their use of medicinal herbs and daily lifestyle.
Finally, reach the spectacular Kuang Si Waterfalls, cascading through the forest in multiple tiers with pools perfect for swimming. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the falls before returning to town.
The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure.
Enjoy some free time to relax at your hotel or explore the town independently before your transfer to the airport for departure.
