• Discover Northern Việt Nam by rail (13 days)

    Led by Tim Doling, author of the book The Railways and Tramways of Việt Nam (White Lotus Press, 2012) and Mountains and Ethnic Minorities: North West Việt Nam (Thế Giới Publishers, 2010), this tour is designed for people who enjoy train travel, however it is not designed exclusively for rail enthusiasts and doesn’t include visits to engine sheds! Instead, the focus is on using the train as much as possible to discover Việt Nam, its history and culture.

    Aimed at those with more time on their hands, this 23-day programme is designed to give you a comprehensive picture of Việt Nam from south to north, following the beautiful coastline to visit key attractions in the south, central and northern regions and introducing you to the many different aspects of this fascinating land.

  • Mountains and Ethnic Minorities (16 days)

    Following a brand new route along mountain roads only recently opened up to motor vehicles, this tour will introduce you to the rich cultures of a wide variety of ethnic groups living in the far north. During your journey you will get plenty of opportunity to trek to their villages and experience some of their most colourful (and photogenic) weekly markets. This tour is suited to those who are agile, can walk a moderate distance and are prepared to accept local guesthouse accommodation. The rewards are superb….

  • National park and Red River delta village (2 days)

    This unique two-day trip offers an unusual opportunity to stay at the home of a typical farming family in the rice-growing area of the Red River Delta, facilitating your active participation in their daily activities and giving you the opportunity to live life according to the rhythm of rural life. It also includes a visit to Xuân Thủy National Park, Việt Nam’s largest bird sanctuary.

  • Sapa Village Trekking and Homestay (5 days)

    Sapa lies in the northwest mountains of Việt Nam on the Hoàng Liên Sơn mountain range. Mount Fansipan, which lies about 19 kilometres from Sapa at 3,143 metres above sea level, is the highest peak in Việt Nam. The area is considered a mecca for hikers due to its excellent trekking terrain. It is also home to many different colourful ethnic minority groups, including the H'mông, Dao (pronounced “Zao”), Giáy (pronounced “Zay”) and Phù Lá.

  • Sustainable Halong Bay Cruising (2 days)

    Hạ Long Bay – a UNESCO World Heritage site and surely the best-known natural site in Việt Nam – is the country’s most popular destination for both Vietnamese and foreign visitors alike. The influx of visitors to Hạ Long Bay, while a very good sign for the local tourism industry, represents a major challenge to the environment, and unless the local authority maintains strict management and visitors display responsible behaviour, the future of this important World Heritage site could be seriously threatened.

  • Wonders of Việt Nam (17 days)

    More than a classic programme covering major attractions from north to south, this trip also takes you, from time to time, off the beaten track to savour unspoiled places or experience genuine contact with the local population.
